Sometimes your environment stifles your growth.
Sometimes your environment stifles your growth.
Tuesday's gym session was great, and the DOMS is really hitting my pecs and shoulders. But my experience at this new gym made me realize something: sometimes your environment might be what's holding you back. I've always struggled with the 100kg bench press, possibly because bench pressing was never a consistent part of my routine. After revamping my training program, the bench press became the first exercise I do every week, and I started pushing myself to go as heavy as I could. Not long after, I hit 100kg. Then I got it for two reps. I even attempted a third. Before now, I wouldn't have even tried because my previous gym didn't have heavier dumbbells, and that limitation made me a little too comfortable. This new spot has pushed me to challenge myself and grow. I was genuinely proud when I hit 100kg for two reps. I also attempted a 40kg a pair incline dumbbell press, but that was a bit much. So I worked through 33kg, 34kg, 35kg, and 37kg instead, and I moved them all. Pretty impressive, right?
Well, here's your cue to take a look at your surroundings and ask yourself whether they're encouraging you to grow or keeping you comfortable.
Till next time. God bless.
