Clichés, Wealth, and Wisdom: First Impressions of Making It Big

I was scrolling through X (Twitter), when I saw a post from Femi Otedola's daughter, speaking about her father's new book. Femi is a Nigerian business man, and philanthropist and boy is he rich. I made a joke about buying the book, and then making the man more richer, xD. Fast forward to Monday, I got to work and noticed a copy of the book was with HR. I immediately enquired, and found out I could borrow it and read. Of course I did, and I hope too finish the book in the coming weeks.

When I started to really get into reading books, self help books were my go to. I was devouring as much as I could lay my hands on, and they certainly had a positive impact on me. Authors like John C. Maxwell, Mark Manson, Ben Carson, and a host of others. As time went by, I started to delve into fiction, and it was adventurous. At the moment, I would pick a fiction book over self help and some other non-fiction genres. One of my major concerns with the self-help genre is how the author hides a couple great ideas in tons and tons of pages. I can't say if this is an autobiography or a self-help, but it certainly does fit the bill for both.

I've read a couple chapters, and I will be honest, it fits the bill of a "self-help". Apart from the interesting anecdotes and comic relief littered across the pages, it has been a rather bland read. The kind of thing you'd expect of books of such genre. You might be wondering at this point, why I have kept on reading the book, well, it shows promise.Albeit it has been dull, and rather cliche for me thus far, I still perceive a brewing story, so I'm eager to finish it soon. Plus, Femi is a "Nepo baby" (a slang used for people born with a silver spoon), and I'm not, and his experiences and thought process offers a different perspective to what I've known growing up. That also pushes me into wanting to learn, and see how the book turns out. Anyhoo, I look forward to finish reading it, and writing a proper review. Now, this is not a bashing or even encouragement to read the book. I'm not much of an expert in book critique and whatnot myself, and as a librarian, I know one of the laws of library science is "Every book it's reader", so theirs always an audience.
