Monday Drumday: Smashing China
I have not been making so much music lately as I caught the dreaded COVID last week and and am still suffering a bit with it. Today I am back to some drumming and trying to expand on what I tried previously with using alternating feet.
I was messing around with my Yamaha DD-65 drums and found a preset called China Kit. It has the advantage that the high hat pedal sound is louder than some of the regular kits so I (and you) can hear what I am doing as well as a great gong sound. I just improvised this to see what I could do.
The foot work is basically just like walking, which should be the most natural thing, but when your hands try to do something different it can go to pieces. I think I held it together fairly well, but I was losing it at the end.
One issue I would love to resolve is why some video files crash my Linux PC when I play them in VLC. These files have been generated by various applications. I have not found other references to this online, but then it is not an easy thing to search for.
Rock on!
