Testing the Gouache Brush
A red bow, a green apron, and a soft, textured tall shape. This started out as a simple practice session with a new digital brush which is called the gouache, though I’m never quite sure if that’s the right spelling. There wasn't a plan for a girl subject at first; I just started gliding the brush downward on the canvas until her shape emerged from the strokes.
Once the form was there, I just went on to complete her with a few details like the apron, shoes, and gloves. It’s nothing serious, just playing around with the look and feel of this new tool. The digital gouache gives it a nice, painterly effect that feels different from my usual style which is a bit more experimental and loose. I’m liking how the colors layer over each other.
Looking at it now it looks like she saw something on the floor. Did she drop a spoon while cooking or could it be a mouse or her new purple boots that she loves so much...
It’s always a nice surprise when a character just appears out of a few experimental strokes. I’m satisfied with how this turned out for a quick hand practice session. Thank you for dropping by to see this little digital experiment, and I'll see you in the next post. Goodbye for now
