Commission work

So I was commissioned at the begining of this month to do a large painting of these two dogs.

While I massively appreciate the work this was immensely challenging for me due to the type of dog as I often follow fur but dogs like these have such short fur its difficult to follow. I spent hours redoing sections but finally managed to get to a position where the customer was extremely happy with the outcome.

I started by blocking in the darkest sections of the painting as I find its best to start from dark to light. Obviously I am no expert but its what works for me and I've seen lots of other painters use the same tactic.

I then proceeded to block in basic colours to help give me a nice outline of where everything is. This step is quite important as it helps to add detail later especially as acrylic can sometimes be quite see-through when not mixed with white.

I then proceeded to add more basic details starting to bring the images to life.

Finally, these steps were the hardest as I had to add the finer detailing which is what can truly make or break the painting. It took me so long to complete this stage and I often did feel like just giving up but finally I got there.

And this is the final result, its not perfect but im still learning. The customer is super happy with it and now all thats left to do is tidy the background where corrections were made and send it off!
