Kneeling before something is often a sign of respect. I don't know of any situations where it is deemed disrespectful. Men and women kneel before their future mates while proposing, worshipers kneel before their gods, mourners kneel to the people they love. In twisting his intent we force thoughts and ideas on a man against his will... It is similar to me saying I love you, and giving you a big hug then you calling the police and saying I threatened you...
Logically there is something missing in translation. It could possibly be that I just don't understand football a great deal :D
