Up Close and Personal Ruleset in Modern Champion

Introduction

You are probably familiar with using Bella Ratajowlski in rulesets that allow magic monsters as it is easy to put together a lineup that features a number of monsters from the Ulund bloodline. You would normally play Mystic Mudbinder, Thunderous Herald and most importantly Moribund Arrowbait.

In the Up Close and Personal ruleset you don't have access to any of those meta cards, so is Bella Ratajowlski still a good choice for the Up Close and Personal ruleset? Today I am going to share a battle that says that it is definitely a great choice.

The Ruleset

Here we have a high medium to lower high mana ruleset at forty one mana available. We have just two splinters playable: Life and Death. Since Life is available we have a choice of playing Brave Tofu summoner that is classic for the Up Close and Personal Ruleset. There is a second ruleset that is Briar Patch where all monsters have Thorns, which takes away one of the main advantages of playing Brave Tofu.

So for this ruleset I picked Bella Ratajowlski which gives deflect shield to all friendly monsters that completely counteract the Briar Patch ruleset. Another advantage of using Bella Ratajowlski here is that she is a smaller mana summoner at just four mana versus the legendary summoners like Brave Tofu or Lorkus that take seven mana.

Picking Monsters and Building a Lineup

For this battle I decided to go with a strategy where I have serious double tank setup powered up by Silverblade Fighter and Leolin Sifu.

I placed Silverblade Fighter first, because he has a Flank ability that gives Leolin Sifu Reach ability to attack from the second position. Silverblade fight has some very solid specs, for only six mana it comes with three melee damage, seven shield and six health points with the base speed of three. It also has a protect ability which gives all friendly monsters two armor, which is nice.

In the second position I placed Leolin Sifu. This is a big mana big specs and big abilities monster. For nine mana you actually get quite a lot: base speed of three with ten health points and seven shield as well as four melee damage. Leolin Sifu also comes with some really nice abilities: True Strike so it never misses, Relentless Strike which deals true damage plus one to monsters that are protected by Void, Shield or Forcefield. Sifu also adds one speed to all friendly monsters as well as has an execute ability. I would say this is one bad kitty...

In the third position I have another formidable defensive monster Ironwing Juggernaut, which for only three mana comes with some serious base specs of three melee damage, five shield, seven health points and three speed.

These three defensive cards protect the more fragile and offensive oriented backline that consists of Olivia of the Brook, Venka the Vile and Bren Palesworn.

Olivia of the Brook is here to pick up enemy abilities as well as target those glass cannons with her Opportunity ability.

Venka the Vile is my main damage dealer and protected by the deflect shield from the summoner this is a perfect killing machine.

And last but not least we have Bren Palesworn that deals three melee and two ranged damage and benefits from his Shapeshift ability as it is treated as all bloodlines including Ulund, so this is a very nice backline defense / offensive monster.

The Battle

Link to the Battle

Here I am up against my Legion Guild mate Langice, he is really good and usually wins about sixty percent of our battles. He chose Lorkus as his summoner and is probably making the bet on Gramel the Hunger and Mantaroth.

In the first round we have eliminated their backline meat shield, the battle is really close so far. Lets see how the second round is going to go.

The second round was pretty good to us, we lost our tank, but took out their main tank and their secondary tank.

And in third round we delivered a knock out to our opponent. Before any of their three remaining monsters could even strike we took them all down!
