Performing eye surgery...on a doll

My oldest sister loves to crochet. A few years ago she went on a binge of making yarn baskets. She made so many, she decided to sell them at craft shops. Then she made several cute little dolls a couple of years ago, including clothes and shoes. She gave them away to nieces and nephews. My granddaughter was one of the recipients. She was only two or three years old, and she did play with the doll, sometimes a bit roughly, and one of her eyes came loose. The task of repairing it came to me. After all, what are grandmother's for? We hug, we love, we bake cookies, and we mend things.

After consulting with my sister, I purchased a set of doll needles. I already had heavy-duty thread on hand from some previous project.

I inserted the needle through her head, starting at the back, and doing my best to hide the thread within her yarn hair. Then I stuck the needle through the shank on her button eye and back through her head. It has been two months since I did this, so I don't recall all the details, but I think I repeated the process at least one more time. Then I did my best to tie a knot in the thread so it wouldn't show.

That was all there was to it! Here she is, all repaired, and ready for more play.

I have been learning to crochet over the past year, but have not made a great deal of progress. I have successfully made several amigurumi octopuses, and am currently trying to make an amigurumi turtle. The first one turned out quite fat but still recognizable. If I ever get a second one made, and if I remember to take pictures, I will post about it.
