Overheards

I'm new to Steemit, and my only agenda for my posts is to try to grow my steem balance by being either entertaining, or interesting and informative.

Following the old Vaudeville adage, "Make-em laugh, make-em smile", I decided to begin by taking inspiration from a very entertaining podcast, Stop Podcasting Yourself (SPY).
One of the most popular bits on SPY is called 'Overheards', in which Dave and Graham, the hosts, plus their "possible guest", recount stories of amusing/crazy/weird things that they've overheard people say in public. Listeners are also invited to write in or call in with their own overheards.

I have been saving up a number of my overheards to send in to SPY, but instead of doing that, I've decided to use them as posts on Steemit. So here goes with the first, with more to follow in later posts.

Overheard #1 - Groucho

This actually occurred on 11^th March 2014

I work as a technician at a college of further education (FE, age 16-18). One of my duties is to loan out audio & video equipment to staff and students on media courses. A few of the students have learning difficulties or "special needs" caused by aspergers, dyslexia, ADHD and the like. One morning, a quiet, polite FE student, who probably has "special needs", came to my media store room to borrow some equipment. I didn't initially notice anything different about him because I was busy and not paying much attention. Then his course tutor arrived, saw him, and their conversation went as follows.

Tutor (surprised): What have you done to your eyebrows, Luke?

Student (despondently): I shaved them off, but thought it looked weird and I didn't want anyone to notice, so I drew them back in with a marker pen!

Tutor (exasperated): Oh, Luke! Next time, get someone else to draw them in with an eyebrow pencil!
