Hive Saved My Day: A Real Emergency Update
Hive Saved My Day — A Real Emergency Update
I didn’t plan to write this post, and I definitely didn’t plan to make these moves financially.
After the robbery in Windhoek, I had to act fast. My phone was gone, and in today’s world that’s not just a device — it’s access, identity, communication, and work.
I had Hive Dollars I originally intended to keep untouched. That was not part of any plan to cash out. Especially not now, when everything feels unstable and markets are down.
But this wasn’t a normal situation.
I needed liquidity immediately.
So I had to check out my Hive Dollars and also sell part of my Bitcoin holdings while the market is down.
It hurts to do that in a dip. That’s not the ideal timing anyone wants. But emergencies don’t care about charts or strategy.
The reality
This was simple:
- I needed a new phone to stay operational
- I had no accessible fiat liquidity
- I used what I had available
- I stabilized the situation
And in the middle of all that, one thing stood out clearly:
Hive saved me.
Without the Hive ecosystem, I would have been stuck in a much worse position. That flexibility made the difference between being stranded and being able to recover quickly.
A thank you to the Hive community
So this is also a genuine thank you:
To everyone building, writing, curating, and supporting Hive — thank you.
It’s easy to forget how powerful decentralized systems become until they’re the thing holding you up when everything else breaks.
What comes next
I wasn’t planning to withdraw anything, and I definitely don’t want to stay in this position.
My goal now is simple:
- rebuild my holdings
- restock over time through my future posts
- keep contributing
- and recover what I had to use
If you like what I write or follow my work, that support directly helps me rebuild faster.
And just to be clear:
Subscriptions are free. Following costs nothing. But it makes a real difference.
Moving forward
I hope this doesn’t stay a setback story for long. I hope it becomes just a temporary interruption in a much bigger journey.
I’ll keep posting, keep building, and keep moving forward.
And hopefully, more people will find my work, like it, and stick around.
Because that’s how this actually grows.

I’ve written about what happened in Namibia before, and this is part of that same chain of events — just the financial aftermath I had to deal with now.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for being part of this journey.
