A journey in a few steps! [EN-ES]

Hello world travelers!

Do you ever live in a place where there are places or details that we sometimes pass by and overlook due to the everyday nature of their presence? This is the case with many peculiarities we find in my city, but which, for visitors, become a wonder to discover.

An example of this is near my house. It's a place I pass by every day and haven't stopped in front of for a long time.

Today, seeing a group of tourists amazed by their peculiarities, I felt like taking advantage of this opportunity to take all of you on this symbolic journey across the Americas and, why not, the entire world, without even leaving the statue I show you below.

As you'll see, it's not a simple statue or sculpture of a person. Through this life-size representation of Ernesto Ché Guevara, gifted to our city by the Spanish sculptor Casto Solano Morrayo and inaugurated for public viewing in October 1998, you can walk through significant places and stories that will astonish more than a few who contemplate it.

It's located in what was Ché's second headquarters when he fought the Battle of Santa Clara, the city where I live and which he liberated at the time. Nearby, you can find other relevant sites, but I'll bring them to you another time.

Here, the sculpted Che carries a child in his arms who represents the future. A child in whom we appreciate the symbol of freedom and that new man who breaks the chains that bind him and seeks victory.

Behind him, what we can see is the sculpture's vent. It is unusual for many foreigners or visitors to think it's an opening through which to insert coins, and they do so on countless visits.

On one of his shoulders, he is depicted as a child riding a goat, symbolizing the fact of going to the mountains and leaving the comforts of his home and family.

Getting closer, we saw that guerrilla fighter sleeping in hammocks during his treks through the mountains.

From one side, a girl can be seen, a symbol of the achievement of privileges for all children.

In one of his pockets, infinity is conquered by two children, one carrying the sun and the other the moon, thus showing that we are equal and at the same time different.

On the other front pocket, Don Quixote is represented, in analogy with that rider who was searching for his dream with the shield on his arm.

Then we see through the folds of his trousers a representation of his journey through America and the mountains of our country during the guerrilla period.

And of course, his signature tobacco couldn't be missing, despite his asthma, carried by hands well-seasoned over time, not at all delicate.

I don't know what you think, but a trip like this, with barely any walking, isn't something you find every day. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did revisiting its footsteps.

¡Hola viajeros por el mundo!

¿Les sucede que viven en un sitio donde existen lugares o detalles a los que a veces les pasamos por el lado y pasamos de largo por lo cotidiano de su presencia? Así resulta con muchas peculiaridades que encontramos en mi ciudad pero, que para los visitantes, devienen maravilla en su descubrimiento.

Un ejemplo de esto que les comento está cerca de mi casa. Es un lugar por donde transito a diario y ante el que no me había detenido desde hace mucho tiempo.

Hoy, al ver a un grupo de turistas anodadados con sus peculiaridades, se me antoja entonces aprovechar y llevarles a todos ustedes también a través de este viaje simbólico por toda la América y, por qué no, de toda el mundo, sin apenas despegarnos de una estatua que a continuación les muestro.

Como verán, no es una simple estatua o escultura a una persona. A través de esta representación, a tamaño real, de Ernesto Ché Guevara, obsequiada a nuestra urbe por el escultor español Casto Solano Morrayo e inaugurada para la vista pública en octubre de 1998, se puede transitar por la lugares e historias significativas que asombrarán a más de una persona que la contemple.

Está ubicada en lo que fuese la segunda comandancia del Ché cuando libró la Batalla de Santa Clara, ciudad donde resido y que él liberó en su momento. Cerca de allí, pueden encontrar otros sitios relevantes pero a los cuales les traeré en otra ocasión.

Acá, el Ché esculpido, lleva en sus brazos a un niño que representa el futuro. Un niño donde apreciamos el símbolo de la libertad y ese hombre nuevo que rompe las cadenas que le atan y busca la victoria.

A su espalda, en lo que apreciamos es el respiradero de la escultura, se da la peculiaridad de que muchos extranjeros o visitantes piensan que es una abertura por donde introducir monedas y así lo hacen en incontables visitas.

Sobre uno de sus hombros, se representa a él de pequeño montado en una cabra, simbolizando el hecho de ir hacia el monte y abandonar las comodidades de su casa y su familia.

Acercándonos más, percibimos a ese guerrillero que dormía en hamacas durante sus travesías por las montañas.

Desde uno de sus costados, se nota a una niña, símbolo de la conquista de los privilegios para todos los infantes.

En uno de sus bolsillos, el infinito es conquistado por dos niños, uno que lleva al sol y el otro la luna, mostrando así mismo que somos iguales y a la vez diferentes.

En el otro bolsillo frontal, se representa al Quijote, en analogía con ese jinete que buscaba su sueño la adarga al brazo.

Luego vemos por los pliegues de su pantalón una representación de su recorrido por América y por las montañas de nuestro país durante la etapa de guerrillas.

Y por supuesto no podía faltar su tabaco característico, a pesar de su padecimiento del asma, llevado de unas manos bien curtidas en el tiempo, para nada delicadas.

No sé qué pensarán ustedes pero, un viaje así, sin apenas caminar, no se encuentra todos los días. Espero lo hayan disfrutado tanto como yo en mi reencuentro con sus pasos.
