Dolphins, Doors, Carrots & Etc
The weekend was absolutely superb - I met each sunrise from Friday to Sunday, and despite the cold, it was just amazing. My son said he'd been at Lake Garda hiring paddle boards and the hire place was a little shocked to see them there so early - apparently Europeans don't get up early on holiday, as a rule. Australians do - especially when it's hot. The best part of the day is the cool sunrise. Of course, being winter, 'cool' is an understatement, though the blessing is the water temperature becomes warmer than the air temperature.
It's been an entire year since we first saw the new house - this time last year we hadn't even put in an offer yet. I'm still grateful we are so close to the sea, and live somewhere so beautiful, where kangaroos race you down the street and dolphins swim under you at dawn. Yes way - this happens. There's a lot to be grateful for, even if two days of surfing was not good for my hips. I'm in agony, as I write this on Tuesday, trying not to cry. I find it best not to think about it, or I end up in a misery spiral. I'll head to get Bowen treatment next week and maybe try to get into the doctors again for another MRI. Perhaps this is the new normal. I'm rather fed up.
Jamie spent Sunday painting the skirting boards and hammering them in place, and sealing them. Last night he repainted the hall skirting and door surrounds which look much brighter now. Currently we're thinking about timber doors which will warm the place up a bit. Every room, they say, should have a little drama - and the Mexicano oak doors will provide that. Jamie says my room has drama enough when he comes to get some magnesium tablets at night and I shout at him for waking me up. Sleep is precious.
I did manage to sell enough clothes on Depop to pay for the three doors, though I'll have to raise more for the last door, which I want to be glass so it lets the light in and you can see the bookshelf when the door is shut. It's a tiny home, so creating the illusion of space is important. The only time I lament not being rich is when we want to execute some cool design idea but can't afford it. But if we were rich, we'd design a bigger house on a bigger block with a sea view, right? Maybe.
We took a walk over at Bells and looked at the beautiful swell, looking for whales, which frequent the area this time of year, and went and saw my uncle who'd been surfing in the Maldives. It's always nice to see him - he's my Dad's brother, and I'll be gutted when he goes too.
I did a bit of carrot thinning and weeding the garden - although carrots are cheap, it's good to have some fresh garden produce this time of the year. We're eating a lot of silverbeet, spinach, parsley, garlic tops and fennel fronds, and radish. It won't be long before we're planting spring vegetables again.
I'm not on Hive as much - it hurts to sit and type. I've given up on the Ocean Lovers community - there's just not enough people here writing and posting, and I've never see Hive Garden so quiet. It's a shame that whales don't spread the love amongst all the niche communities on Hive and not just a few, but it is what it is. I'd rather talk about rainbows that moan about Hive. I still can't imagine life without it.
Well, the week goes on. Another day, another appointment, like the xray for my elbow fracture to see how it's healing. It is a lot better and I can swim now, and surf, though I'm cautious. Oh, and I'm knitting another blanket as well - remember my grief blanket, that big green one I knitted after Dad died? This one is my happiness blanket - a lovely turmeric yellow. I do love that Jamie calls my knitting bag my ball sack, as in balls of yarn.
You gotta take the laughs where you can.
With Love,
