“Kuah Belangong” is Acehnese cuisine and culture

Kuah belangong is a traditional Acehnese dish, which has been around for a long time. Kuah belangong is a red sauce of a kind of curry cooked with typical Acehnese herbs and spices: such as red chili, gongseng coconut, lemongrass, grated coconut. a frying pan or in aceh language known as "belangong". From time immemorial Kuah Belangong has always been the main favorite food of the Acehnese. Acehnese always say:

"Wherever the event will be held, don't forget to prepare Belangong sauce, because that is our dignity and character."

The Acehnese say that because the belangong sauce, which is so thick in curry, symbolizes the thickness of the cultural character of the Acehnese, the Acehnese are known to be loud, and firm. And the Acehnese always get the spotlight wherever they go, so this is the meaning of the sentence spoken above.

Belangong sauce is usually cooked for banquets, gatherings, and other party events. Belangong sauce usually contains beef, goat, chicken and duck. Which is then chopped into several small pieces, so that it is cooked tenderly. This sauce is cooked depending on the taste of each. The vegetables in the belangong sauce such as potatoes, young jackfruit, separated and others.

The tradition in eating Kuah belangong is to eat it with white rice covered with banana leaves underneath. In areas in Aceh there are many variations of Belangong sauce. Some cook by adding bananas, some cook by adding only young jackfruit, and some cook by adding potatoes.

Usually, Belangong sauce is always cooked together in a place such as a house, open field, mosque, and other event venues. Belangong sauce is always cooked where the place or event will be held.
