
The start of something new
2007 marked the end of an era in my life yet also the beginning of something wonderful.
I was not long out of a marriage breakup. I had left the house I was paying for where my two sons live still to this day with their Mother. At the point in time where this story starts I was renting a bedroom in someone's house, working nights in the print industry and wondering what the hell I should do next.
Friends offered advice, my closest friend at the time suggested buying an Xbox 360 with gears of war included and joining in sometimes after work. I took the advice on board and purchased one. Gears sessions became a regular event. It was always a good laugh and helped us to wind down after work. I became reasonably good at it, especially with a torque bow.
One work shift in particular, everyone had agreed to meet up for a sesh’ at around 6:15 am. I had set myself up ready to go, tea, smoke, sorted; no friends online. Waited for another 20 minutes or so before I gave up and flipped a coin. Heads - Xbox, tails - to bed I go. It was heads. I randomly joined a game currently in session on a map called Raven down...
