Kershaw Gardens parkrun

Last Saturday's tourist journey was to Rockhampton to complete Kershaw Gardens parkrun and regain Queensland statesman. Greg and Carolyn McLaughlin from Brisbane also attended to regain their Queensland statesmanship

To achieve Queensland statesmanship requires completing all 140 parkruns currently open in the state of Queensland and for anyone just starting the challenge, it takes significant planning to arrange transport, hire cars, accommodation and in excess of 3 years

The mainly flat course with several shaded sections is 2 laps run entirely on bitumen surface in the beautiful Kershaw Gardens hence the parkrun name with ample parking, toilets near the start and an on site coffee van

The vollie team headed by RD Garry Womsley were welcoming, encouraging and in my experience, Garry is the record holder for the most course chalk art and messages. The messages were etched over the entire course

I obtained economical accommodation at Rockhampton Riverside Central Motel less than 2k walk to parkrun start with free car parking and a short walk to riverside cafes

No trip to Rockhampton would be complete unless it included a walk along the scenic Quay adjacent to the Fitzroy River and lined with many stately buildings from a bygone era

Another enjoyable parkrun experience
