Limited by a sprained ankle.
This happens when an old man thinks that he is still a youngster :)
In here I have a Cape Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) (3 shots), then I have a Southern Fiscal (Lanius collaris), followed by a Southern Double-collared sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus)(3 shots), and finally a Cape Sparrow (Passer melanurus) (1 shot). All of the birds are males.
So, my wife helped me to go and sit on a chair with a thousand cushions, (at least it felt like that), outside in our small front garden. It has a limited view of some treetops when one is sitting down, but I am a patient man, and I have the benefit of knowing that I would get some birdlife on the treetops sooner or later. in the meantime, we fed a squirrel that came to show us its winter coat. My wife put the nuts down and my second wife (camera) took the shots. Lol
Here you can see how thick her squirrel winter coat is.
Let us start with the Southern Fiscal (Lanius collaris).
I watched him coming in and landing on that treetop two houses down from our house.
He sat looking around for some flying insects.
And then he was gone.
Then across the road this little guy appeared.
He is the greatest singer of the sunbird family, and it's a Southern Double-collared sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus).
I have shown him so many times to you over the years, that I am sure you know him just as well as I do now, yet he still keeps me spellbound.
And finally, a Cape Sparrow landed on the same tree where the fiscal was sitting. Sometimes the sunbird also sits on that tree but not on this occasion.
Now I know that you are going to ask what happened to my ankle. Imagine hopping along for about 150yards over a bare field that is not too level, aiming the camera at the sky in the hope of getting a shot of a flying eagle, and then for some reason your right foot tramps in a ditch. Let me tell you that it is very difficult to fall and prevent the camera from damages. So, I only had one hand to prevent me from kissing the turf, and the other hand was held high up with the camera in it.
So now at bedtime it is first a heat pack on the ankle, and then ointments massaged into the sore parts of it. I know it will take a couple of days to heal, but I have been in a situation like this a few times before. Unfortunately, I don't have the all-round view like a chameleon so that I can watch both the sky and the land at the same time. Lol.
Such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
