Balancing Work Life And Personal Life: The Weight We All Carry.
Hello, everyone.
I welcome you to my blog. We all try to have a balance between work life and personal life. Even though it is very difficult to attain, we still try to see that our work life does not overshadow our personal life or stop us from having a personal life. The truth is that there are many individuals out there who have allowed their work life to stop them from having a personal life; they have little or no time for themselves and spend almost all their time on work, more like their lives revolve around work and work alone. There are individuals who cannot even remember the last time they spent some time doing something else aside from work, no family time, no time for friends, just work after work.
Sometimes when work overshadows one's personal life, it is totally their doing. Some people at some point get so addicted to work and cannot get their hands off it, as they want to keep going even when friends and family complain and encourage them to improve their personal life. They even go as far as picking offense or making excuses, whereas they can actually do that without getting penalized for doing so, but they just choose work over personal life and improving their personal life. Many families have crashed because of one's inability to balance work life and personal life.
For some people when work overshadows their personal life, it is not their doing or their choice; they try as much as they can to make sure their work life and personal life attain equilibrium, but the nature of their work does not permit them to do that. One time I worked in a sachet and bottled water company; my work life overshadowed my personal life. At that point I had no personal life at all. I reported to work at 4am and close by 11pm, and sometimes even 12am. I was a complete shadow of myself. I lived in the same house with family members but didn't even know what they looked like for days. Before they woke up in the morning, I had left the house, and before I returned from work, they had all gone to sleep. I was invisible to both family and friends; I was there, but I was not there at the same time.
At some point I realized that if I continued like that, I was more likely to break down both mentally and emotionally because I could feel the distance the job was creating between me and my family and friends. Things were no longer like they used to be, and I just had to quit. Sometimes balancing work life and personal life requires that you know when to stop. Once you have reached that limit or that time, just take a break or quit and go about improving your personal life because you actually need it too in order to excel in life.
