Spicy Tempeh Chips

These tempeh chips are my go-to when I suddenly crave a light snack—something simple yet packed with the flavor I love. Their crispy texture and vegan ingredients are sure to make you crave this snack.

Today I’m going to make one of my go-to dishes for relaxing at home. Made with vegan ingredients and featuring savory and spicy notes, this snack is a must-try. As you know, tempeh is extremely popular in Indonesia and is even sold at very affordable prices. I don’t think there’s a single person who doesn’t love tempeh—it’s just that delicious.

Well, turning tempeh into chips isn’t the first time I’ve done this; I’ve already made snacks from tempeh using various delicious recipes. But I didn’t want to miss out on these spicy tempeh chips, so I’ll show you the easy preparation steps.

Ingredients

20260609_110515.jpg

1 block of tempeh
100 grams all-purpose flour
1 stalk of celery
5 red chili peppers
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon mushroom bouillon
2 cloves of garlic
1 candlenut

Instructions

Boil the tempeh briefly for about 3 to 5 minutes, until cooked through and the texture is slightly soft.

Then add the salt, mushroom bouillon, garlic, candlenut, and red chili peppers, and grind them by hand until smooth.

Add the boiled tempeh, then grind until it breaks down. Next, add the chopped celery and flour, and mix until well combined. If the mixture is too stiff, add a little water.

Once the mixture is ready to shape, take a small amount and flatten it on plastic wrap to make it easier to handle. Flatten it with your hands.

Just look at the results—they’re absolutely mouthwatering! The combination of tempeh and flour turned out exactly as I’d hoped. The texture is crispy, the flavor is super savory, and the spiciness is just right—not too much—so it’s a real treat to eat.

This is the best tempeh snack in my opinion; even my husband says it’s amazing—he says we have to make this recipe over and over again because it’s truly delicious. I think this will become our go-to snack at home because the ingredients are simple and definitely easy to find.
