When gratitude becomes a way of life
I truly believe that things always get better—so there is always something to look forward to. I also truly believe that in a state of gratitude there can be no sadness. Even on days when everything seems gloomy, I try to focus on the fact that I am breathing and have life and can take care of the gloominess. It makes the outcome sweeter and alleviates any stress.
It is hard for some people to focus on their blessings instead of their problems, but that is gratitude, and practicing this gives peace and joy within. If there is one vital thing I learned from Mum, it's to have a heart of gratitude even in the midst of a storm, even for the little achievements, and even for that little gift I receive from anyone.
I have mentioned this in my past blogs, and I will keep giving credit to Mum, for she deserves all the accolades for such unique intentional nurturing. I call it intentional because she was quite intentional with it back then, even to this date. She still keeps reminding me of the person I should call to appreciate over a kindness given to her, not me this time but her, yet she seems to think it's important that I should also appreciate the giver on her behalf. Looking at her, I see a woman living a life of gratitude daily. I don't think I have ever seen her complain of her situation even though she feels it, but rather always express her gratitude to God for life first amidst the storm. It's something I learned from her and have been practicing to this date.
Having said that, the three things I am most grateful for are life, the beautiful people around me, and the opportunity to grow. Life, because the dead can't fight for anything in life, so once there is life, there is hope for my dreams to turn into reality; it's a matter of time.
Secondly, for my lovely people around me. I must confess that I am loved, totally loved, and that's why my challenges of life always come lighter due to many shoulders to lean on. I can't express in writing how lucky I am to have golden people by my side, and finally, I am grateful for an opportunity to grow. So yeah, it's something to be grateful for; having such an opportunity to experience a lot about life has given me growth in areas I never expected. Some people aren't privileged to have similar opportunities I have today, and hopefully, I will keep growing.
Overall, it's easy to be bitter when we focus on what we haven't achieved, but focusing on gratitude changes our perspectives for good, and by so doing, we live a positive life that would influence our relationships with people positively.
