Days of silence and solitude. A necessary, welcoming silence—a silence that serves as a refuge and a shelter for the heart.

Nothing is perfect, not even this beautiful library silence. You can hear the turning of pages, typing fingers, the scratch of a pencil on paper, the tapping of a pen on the table: all silent companions, deeply focused on reading or studying. But I paused for a moment to take these photos for the reflection contest. Reflections of one of my favorite places, of my favorite silences.

Sometimes I get my silences mixed up, and in my need to find it, I withdraw completely into myself. I slip into my non-verbal days, where I try to prevent a burst of anxiety by shutting out the noise of the world, but I end up shutting out the beautiful sounds of silence that could actually help me heal. I am working on catching this confusion before I spend too much time in isolation, trying to control an explosion that is inevitably going to happen anyway—whether in the form of tears, trembling, chest pain, or all of the above at once.

Today I feel better, and I'm coming out of my shell again. I'm returning to the places that bring me peace, and this one—surrounded by these windows reflecting the blue sky—is one of them.

Días de silencio y soledad, un silencio necesario, acogedor—un silencio que es refugio y cobijo para el corazón.

Nada es perfecto, ni siquiera este hermoso silencio de la biblioteca. Se escucha el pasar de las páginas, los dedos que teclean, el roce del lápiz con el papel, los golpecitos del bolígrafo sobre la mesa: todos compañeros silenciosos, leyendo o estudiando concentrados.Pero yo paré un momento para tomar estas fotos para el concurso de los reflejos. Reflejos de uno de mis lugares favoritos, de mis silencios favoritos.

A veces me equivoco de silencio, y en mi necesidad por encontrarlo me voy al hermetismo. Paso a mis días no verbales, en los que trato de evitar un estallido de ansiedad evitando el ruido del mundo, pero acabo evitando también los bonitos sonidos del silencio que sí podría ayudarme a sanar. Estoy trabajando en identificar esta confusión antes de que pase demasiado tiempo en mi aislamiento, en mi esfuerzo por controlar una explosión que de todos modos va a llegar en forma de llanto, temblor, dolor de pecho, o todo al mismo tiempo.
Hoy estoy mejor y vuelvo a salir de mi coraza, vuelvo a los lugares que me dan paz y este, entre estas ventanas que reflejan el cielo azul, es uno de ellos.
