Two Generations; One Era
Right now I feel, there are two very different mindsets living side by side. Not just parents and kids. It’s bigger than age. Its about 2 different set of people; one mindful and the other careless. One living in a manner like there’s no tomorrow and the other weighing every choice.
I am not saying that these 2 set of people have suddenly emerged, they have always been there. It's just about how the ratio is changing. Careless and careful people always existed. There was one set who would stitched old clothes into kitchen cloths being mindful and then there was another who ran the tap while brushing for 10 minutes was careless.
The difference is that 3 decades back the ratio was imbalanced, there were more careless people then the mindful ones. But now that ratio is getting better. Possibly it was 80:20 before which now may be 60:40. And what changing this ratio.
People can see the damage that's happening. A couple of years back Indian spiritual guru Sadhguru made a world trip creating awareness on saving soil. Many countries signed deals to participate in it, not only government bodies, but individuals and NGOs also came forward to support the initiative. People are waking up and understanding that if we do not take action now then it can become a disaster for us.
But still with all the awareness there are many people who have no mindfulness towards using resources. With these 2 different mindsets also there is an entanglement. I am mindful about my resources, yet I use an air-condition, a smart phone, a car and so much more. Very few people can go completely off grid but most of us are hooked into the systems.
But still with some level of mindfulness we can reduce the negative impact on our nature and resources. Our planet doesn’t care which side we are on. It only counts what we do next.
