Part 2: Why First Context is the Web2-to-Web3 Bridge We Actually Needed
Greetings Hivers!
In my last post I talked about First Context , which is the new beta app backed by @starkerz. Where I tried to explain how easy it is to use it. If you missed that one the quick version is that it lets you take a regular old Web2 link. Like a YouTube video and anchor it to the Hive blockchain by adding a "signal" or a bit of context. Since writing that I’ve been thinking a lot about the bigger picture. We always talk about building a "bridge" between the normal internet (Web2) and the blockchain world (Web3). Most of the time it feels like we’re just talking and "this is not going to be possible".

First Context is the first time in a while where I’ve thought “Oh, wow babe this is actually doing it.”
And the way it handles onboarding might just change how we grow Hive.
Breaking Out of Our Web3 Bubble
Web3 can be a bit of an exclusive club as we love Hive. Why? It is community owned which we don't have to deal with corporate censorship and we get rewarded for curating good stuff. But to a normal person just scrolling through YouTube or TikTok? All this talk about crypto or private keys and decentralized nodes is just intimidating.
The reality is that a busy Web2 creator isn’t going to abandon their massive audience to jump onto. Brand new blockchain platform from scratch. It’s too much risk and too much work to be done.
That’s why I love what First Context is doing. Instead of begging Web2 creators to move over to Web3 First Context just brings Web3 to them.
How it Works (Without Annoying the Creators)?
By using the "Thoughts On Chain" tool we aren’t trying to build a separate isolated version of the internet. We’re just mapping the existing internet onto Hive.
Think about it that a YouTuber doesn't have to change a single thing about their day. They keep uploading to YouTube just like they always do. But over here on Hive our community can grab their link mark. It as correct and add layers of helpful information to it.
Suddenly, that creator has a permanent decentralized hub on Hive that connects. And all their scattered Web2 content into one un-censorable profile. They get extra visibility and a backup of their digital identity. Hive gets an influx of awesome real world content to curate. It just makes sense, isn't it to you???
Fixing the "Crypto Barrier"
The absolute biggest hurdle for Hive has always been getting people started. Telling a friend "join this cool site but if you lose these four random strings of passwords. Your account is gone forever and nobody can help you," is a really tough sell.
From what I’ve seen from @starkerz and the team they are tackling this head-on. They’re building First Context so that people can interact. And to support creators even set up accounts using familiar Web2 methods or straightforward crypto options they might already use (like USDT).
Basically they are going to remove the headache. You can get involved to support your favorite channels and start building your on-chain footprint. Then learn the heavy tech stuff later when you're ready.
Wrapping Up
What really hooks me about First Context is how much it relies on us. Every time you take a few minutes to add a signal to a video you’re acting as a digital bridge builder. You’re helping a creator get noticed and showing people outside of crypto. How powerful a decentralized community can be...
It’s still in beta which means it’s the perfect time to mess around with it. See what and how it works and watch it grow. @starkerz has been super active with tutorials and helping people out so don't be shy to jump in.

Have any of you tried adding a signal on beta.firstcontext.app yet? Who is a YouTuber you love that needs a First Context page?
Drop your thoughts in the comments, let's talk about it without any hesitations...
