Oblivion

A moment or two has passed since this event... Looking at this short video kept for all this time just on one of my devices, I see an upside-down boat, wrecked on the shores of an invisible sea.

What I perceive as a very nice feature is that instead of the darkness of the seabed, light enters through the glass fragments of the trencadís, and it may even seem surprising that such beautiful light actually breaks through where sombre should be the norm. It tells me that a tiny part of it wants to come out of sleep mode, from the oblivion where I store these videos and photos.

About the perceptions you get when you find yourself in this building, Ágora... If you stand there beneath its vault, you seem so small. Not to mention, if you sit, but even then, somehow the sounds coming from these two instruments filled the huge space. I can't tell whether the curved walls preserve the memory of this beast’s journey or represent a hollow body of a world that had long since sailed away. In any case, an excerpt of oblivion is flowing through the air, unfortunately, chopped in one moment because the person who filmed it (my son 😁) wanted to make a short recording out of it. Well, unfinished things tend to push us to continue sailing wherever the currents take us. 🎶

P.S. The piece you can hear in this super tiny video is a part of the composition Oblivion, written by Astor Piazzolla in 1982. It was scored for strings, bandoneón, and bells, but numerous arrangements and transcriptions have emerged since the original piece was written. Here we play it in our mandolin-piano version and it is a part of our current repertoire that revolves around the concept of world dances as seen through the eyes of classical composers.
