Among hibiscus trees

When I was small, I learned the word hibiscus from my grandmother. I had no idea what that plant or flower looked like back in time, but I already knew the word well.

We loved spending weekends at her place, because you know how it is when you are a guest - you are allowed to do almost anything, even have peppermint candies before you fall asleep, and you don't have to get out of bed to brush your teeth again! It is interesting how I remember that, as a special treat, when in fact it was just one candy. That grandma loved hibiscus tea, a so bright red and sour beverage to my taste - a complete contrast to that sweet peppermint candy I liked. Even though she would put sugar in her hibiscus tea, it still tasted sour to me, so it was only after many years that I came to like the taste. Probably, I was remembering my grandmother and the weekends spent at her house again when I started drinking that flavoured tea.

Maybe these flowers also reminded me of her. This is a walk among the hibiscus bushes in the botanical garden in Malaga. You already know this place well from my posts, however, there are still parts of this large park that I can introduce to you. Hibiscus flowers come this time.

The path in this part of the botanical garden is surrounded by hibiscus bushes, pruned as little trees actually. They were pretty and in different colours, with single or double flowers. The most difficult was to take a photo of the red ones as somehow they always turned out more like pink flowers. The white or yellow ones were my favourites.

As I saw on the information panel, this plant originates from tropical Asia, but it seems to also thrive in other areas with tropical or temperate climates. I used to see hibiscus shrubs and their beautiful flowers at our old place, but not as many or as colorful as here in Malaga, in the botanical garden.

Pink or red - who would know anymore!? 😂

Some of the flowers were posing in the direct sunlight, proud of their gracefulness.

We also met some half-hidden flowers in the shade of the leaves.

My favourite among all of them was this white hibiscus flower.
