A Fool's gold is a very common method of stealing from a person. They provide fake gold, that looks like the real one. This is why it is called the fool's gold. It might not literally be the gold in question, but this term can be used to describe other scam practices.

I am not familiar with all the other practices but it is something that people take advantage of the vulnerability of the customer.
