Run Your Race.
I love this so much. There was a time I was actually battling with comparison and all, and I can tell you in all honesty that it stole not just my peace, but even my joy. Then, I was comparing my journey with that of my friends and agemate, my friends were gaining admissions, some were graduating and all, and it feels I was still stuck. Also, I was battling with something personal as at they time too and I all overwhelmed me.
It got to a time that I even let go of social media, I didn't want to see or hear from anyone anymore. I just felt, "why me? Am I just unlucky? What exactly is wrong?" And the more I compared my journey to others the more bad I felt. Like I was failing in life while others are doing well for themselves. And like I said earlier, I was actually going through a tough season as well, so it all compounded my situation.
But along the line, I began to have a rethink. I stopped asking myself why I'm not at a certain level yet, rather I ask if I was better than I was yesterday. And that was it for me. I began to focus more on my life and try as much as possible to improve on a daily. It's not always easy, especially at this age, you tend to think and compare your journey, but then it's best to have a rethink, focus on self, improve, appreciate your journey and celebrate the little wins.
Not as if I've stopped comparing, nah. I just to healthy comparison now. Yea, comparison can also be very healthy and good, it's just left for us to not cross the thin line that leads to its unhealthy side. So, on weather if it's good or bad, it depends solely on how we use it. Someone's success should inspire you to not give up,. someone's success shouldn't make you hate yourself and downplay the little efforts you've been pulling. But when another person's success and progress in life makes you hate yourself, then it has become unhealthy or when someone's success makes you forget yours, or makes you relent, then it's bad.
Now, one thing I've come to know though is that we all have our own race to run, and with that out finish lines are different. We might cross path, we might encounter same thing at a point, even still our paths and finish line are still different. So, focus on you.
