My thoughts on mirror neurons
Sometimes we are amazed at how easily we can understand another person — sense their mood, feel their joy or pain, even if they haven't said a word. Behind this lies an amazing mechanism in our brain — mirror neurons. They are activated not only when we perform an action ourselves, but also when we observe someone else doing it.
This system is like a built-in “mirror” inside us that reflects other people's movements and emotions. Thanks to it, we learn, feel, and understand each other on a level that goes beyond words.
Learning through observation
From childhood, we copy adults: we repeat their gestures, words, and habits. Mirror neurons allow us to “try on” other people's actions for ourselves, even if we don't perform them. This explains why learning by example is so effective — we literally live someone else's experience within ourselves.
Feeling other people's emotions
When we see a smile, our brain reacts as if we were smiling ourselves. When we observe someone else's pain, the same areas are activated within us as when we experience our own pain. This is why we are capable of empathy — we feel other people's experiences almost physically.
We understand without words
Gestures, facial expressions, intonations — all of this triggers a response in our nervous system. We begin to understand the intentions and mood of the person we are talking to even before they explain it in words. This makes communication lively and deep, rather than mechanical.
The basis of connection and trust
Without mirror neurons, our interactions would be dry and formal. They create the basis for friendship, love, and mutual assistance. It is thanks to them that we feel that we are “on the same wavelength” with another person, that we are understood and accepted.
Conclusion
For me, mirror neurons are proof that we are not separate islands. We constantly reflect each other, learn and feel together. This reminds us that happiness and understanding are born not only within us, but also in contact with other people.
