Book review: Hello, Do You Remember Me?

A very warm hello to my dear book-loving friends. I’m so happy to be back with you to bring you a wonderful read. This time, I’m bringing you Hello, Do You Remember Me? by Megan Maxwell.

Hello, Do You Remember Me? is probably one of Megan Maxwell’s most successful novels. It is a gripping novel in which we find stories of love, memories and secrets kept from generation to generation, alongside plenty of nostalgia and an atmosphere brimming with passion.

Hello, Do You Remember Me? has a great deal of depth and contemporary romance, highlighting the style of its author, Megan Maxwell. The story begins in the 1960s, when so many emigrants were leaving Spain to move to Germany. Carmen and her sister were leaving Spain, just as so many emigrants did at that time.

In the story, Carmen is such a compelling character that she lingers in the mind long after you’ve finished reading the book. She is captivating because of her strength. Carmen went through hardship and was terrified of being so far from home. She learnt to survive when life dealt her a harsh blow.

However, her relationship with Teddy makes her feel fulfilled, loved and full of hope, yet at the same time there is a sense of melancholy that runs throughout the novel.

The novel is set in the era when Spaniards emigrated in search of new opportunities, depicting the harshness of the environment when they had to start afresh in a society rife with prejudice in the Spain of that time.

The novel takes a surprising turn when the character of Alana, Carmen’s daughter, appears. Alana is a journalist who is both very independent and impulsive. She does not believe in love until Joel Parker comes into her life. He is an American Marine, stubborn yet very charming, with unparalleled patience.

Alana falls madly in love with Joel, even though he reminds her of her mother’s pain and suffering. This shows how family histories can influence our relationships from within without us even realising it. When Joel enters Alana’s life with all his love and patience, he helps Alana find a balance in her otherwise impulsive nature.

Megan Maxwell crafts Hello, Do You Remember Me? into a novel where romance, laughter and tears envelop the reader in a whirlwind of emotions throughout the story, without ever descending into over-the-top drama. It is a deeply personal novel, which portrays nostalgia and suffering in a very authentic way.

The novel unfolds to the melodies that evoke memories. The music references situations experienced in a very warm atmosphere. The relationship between Carmen and Teddy is wonderful, as they managed to weave together the magic of love, the past and the present, and the bond between mother and daughter, with the conviction that there is always a new opportunity to be happy.

In conclusion, one could say that Hello, Do You Remember Me? by the wonderful writer Megan Maxwell is a novel written from the heart, born of nostalgia for what has been lived.

I hope you enjoyed the review I’ve shared with you today. Until next time. Best wishes.
