My Interactive Room Planner
I decided to turn my sketchbook into a playground today but I used cardboards btw. Instead of redrawing room layouts over and over, I chose to create my own movable furniture kit. I love how these hand-drawn pieces unfold right before my eyes while I was sketching and then cutting them one at a time. That's the fun part as I realized I could arrange them however I wanted on my custom floor grid.
My Creative Process
Focused on a clean and flat aesthetic to keep the focus on functionality and fun I am just so happy with how versatile these little cutouts turned out to be.
- Sketching the Essentials: Drew a bed, a sofa, kitchen counters, and bathroom fixtures on textured cardboard.
- The Cut-Out Phase: Carefully trimmed each piece to create a modular set that I can slide around and swap quickly that save me time.
- Building the Grid: Drafted a floor layout on a sturdy base like this recycled cardboard, I added little yellow details to mark the window and door placements for a pop of color and structure too.
It is amazing how a few simple pen strokes and a pair of scissors can completely change the way I experiment with interior layout and design. This system feels like the perfect way to brainstorm without needing to restart a sketch every time I change my mind do you agree?.
If you were designing your dream creative studio, what is the one piece of furniture you would absolutely need to include?
