5mins freewrite daily prompt: split in two
Joel sat frozen on his bed as his parents'argued in the other room.The argument got louder and louder, then the door flung open, banging against the wall. Another door banged, this time, it was the front door. His heart jumped.
Moments later, his bedroom door opened slowly. His mum stood there, luggage beside her, eyes swollen. “Are you coming with me or not?” she asked, her voice was barely audible and trembling.
Joel couldn’t speak. He loved her deeply, but he also loved Dad, even with all the arguments and tension. He didn’t want to leave either of them. In that moment, he felt completely split in two. His chest ached and his eyes burned with tears. He had to give an answer but he didn’t want to.
