When I Feel Like Giving Up, She Keeps Me Going
One thing I’ve come to realize about life is that as human beings, we’re not always going to feel motivated. There are days when the energy just isn’t there, and the zeal to keep pushing seems to fade away. But at the end of the day, I believe what really matters is how willing we are to fight back against that feeling and not give up. It’s never easy, but that’s where determination and motivation step in.
For me, school has been one of the main places where this struggle shows up. There are days when I feel completely drained, and the thought of attending classes feels like a burden. Sometimes, even walking into my HOD’s office to handle something important feels like too much. And when it comes to preparing for tests or exams, I’ll be honest—there are moments I lose the will to study. I look at my books and feel like I just can’t keep going.
But then, when I take a step back and think deeply, I always remember my biggest motivation—my mother. She has been the driving force behind everything I do. My mum works so hard, and the sacrifices she makes for me can never be overstated. She has been paying my school fees all by herself, and that alone is enough reason for me to keep pushing forward, no matter how tired or discouraged I feel.
Every time I think about the effort she puts in just to give me an education, I remind myself that the least I can do is to make it worthwhile. That’s why I try my best to stay strong and keep pushing, even when I feel like giving up. To me, doing well in school is not just about earning a certificate—it’s about honouring her sacrifices and making sure all her efforts don’t go to waste. Finishing well with strength and graduating with flying colours is one of the best ways I believe i can repay her.
But my mum’s influence doesn’t just stop at academics. She’s also my motivation in life generally, especially when it comes to money and independence. Watching her carry so many responsibilities on her shoulders has made me determined to work hard and eventually ease that burden. I want to be able to stand on my own, to provide for myself, and to support her too.
So yes, there are times I lose the zeal to keep moving forward. But every time I think about my mother—the sacrifices, the love, the effort—I find a reason to keep going. She’s the reason I fight through the stress, the exhaustion, and the doubts because in the end, I know it will all be worth it.
