🌺 Hibiscus-Inspired Crochet Earrings + Free Pattern 🌺
Hi Hive friends and fellow crafters!
I’m happy to share my latest project for this week’s #Needleworkmonday—a combination of a customer commission, a crochet journey, and a free tutorial for anyone who wants to try making their own flower earrings. 🌸
This order came from Claire, a returning customer from Cebu, who is also a fellow craft businesswoman. I’ve worked with her before, and she always gives me interesting ideas that challenge my usual style. This time, she asked me to make a set of hibiscus-inspired earrings in three sizes: 3cm, 4cm, and 5cm, all with five petals to mimic the natural look of the hibiscus flower.
I’d like to share the pattern for the 4cm version, which is part of her order—and I hope it inspires you to try your own version too!
Trial and Error Before the Perfect Bloom
Before I share the pattern, let me talk a bit about the process. To be honest, it took me three tries before I got the right size—which is exactly 4 cm in diameter..
On my first try, I followed a pattern that I thought would work. But it had too many holes on the petals, which didn’t look clean or structured. I realized I had to completely change the pattern and start over.
On the second attempt, I tried a fuller stitch to remove the holes—but the size went way beyond what was needed. It measured 7cm, which was way too big.
After a bit of math, adjusting my stitches, and switching my hook size, I finally created a version that looked balanced, floral, and exactly 4cm in diameter. 🌼
Sometimes, we need to go through trial and error to perfect something, and I’ve learned to embrace that as part of being a maker.
A Push Toward New Ideas
One thing I really appreciate about working with customers like Claire is that they push me to explore new designs I wouldn’t have done on my own. If it weren’t for her request, I might not have thought of doing hibiscus-inspired earrings in different sizes.
By the way, her first order was also a bouquet made of Gladiolus flowers. I wasn’t even familiar with the flower at the time, so I had to look it up online. Good thing I found a tutorial and learned something new along the way.
It reminds me that sometimes we need a little push from others to come up with something new and beautiful. Creativity grows when it’s challenged.

Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
Instructions :
Once you have five petals, glue the first 3 petals, then put the artificial stamen in the middle of the flower, and add the 2 remaining petals.
After that, cut off those extra wires and yarns at the back of your flowers using scissor.
✂️ Finishing Touches
After attaching the petals and the stamen, I used a small circular piece of hard felt paper to cover the back of the flower. It keeps everything in place and gives it a polished look.
Lastly, I attached the earring hook to the tip of one petal.
That’s it—your 4cm hibiscus is ready to wear!
Here’s a photo of the first three pairs in different sizes: 3 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm.
Thank you for visiting my post. Let me know if you try the pattern! I’d love to see your creations. 💛
