When One Herbicide Wasn't Enough: Why I Had to Reapply My Rice Field

Farming constantly teaches that not every product works the same way under field conditions, and sometimes you only know how effective something is if you give it a chance to prove itself.

That was my experience while spraying my farm with herbicide to prepare the land for the eventual transplanting of the rice seedlings currently in the nursery.

It is August already, and I don't have time anymore to wait since, under normal circumstances, by now I should have already transplanted my rice seedlings, but since I now find myself in this situation, there is not enough time to experiment with anything right now rather than to do things the way I used to do them then.

I have a retail Agri business man that normally supplies me with herbicide, so once I call, he makes the herbicide that I need available, but this time he brought something a little bit different, and that definitely affected things.

After convincing me that the new herbicide was good, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, but after spraying, the activity of that herbicide was pretty slow.

In one week, some weeds were definitely still standing strong, which in other cases with other herbicides that I was comfortable with, a lot of damage would have been done to the weeds.

Instead of hoping the weeds would eventually die, I decided to act quickly. I went back and purchased ForceUp, a herbicide that I have used before and have much more confidence in. From my previous experience, I know it gives more consistent results, so I didn't want to take any more chances.

Although reapplying herbicide meant spending extra money and time, I saw it as an investment rather than a loss. Allowing weeds to compete with my rice would cost far more in the long run through reduced crop growth and lower yields.

I am now looking forward to seeing the results from this second application and, hopefully, having a much cleaner field ready for the next phase of my rice farming journey.
