Lord General (Weird Science) - with process shots

“Do your friends know you wear a bra on your head??”- Lord General (Vernon Wells), from the 1985 John Hughes classic: Weird Science

A childhood favorite film of mine, it got many, many plays on my VCR. And for a while, I was able to quote most of the movie 😂

Drawn in the Procreate app on the iPad pro.

So, I started the sketch with a plain white background and just loosely block in the figure:

Then I fleshed it out a little, gradually adding details along the way, while correcting proportional mistakes:

Next, I found a toned paper texture that I liked and placed it underneath the drawing layer. Then I started to add highlights and shading:

Once I found the style I wanted to work in, I began rendering:

I used different layers for highlights, hatching, background, and smudging

And then finished up with the final product:
