Learning online

In this modern day, learning online has become a necessity because the world has evolved into a technology-driven lifestyle where things are done with ease compared to how it was in the early 2000s, as I saw while growing up. Pexels

Learning online was something I once spoke against because I couldn't imagine being on my screen and pretending to follow what was being taught by the teacher, lecturer, or whoever was in charge of the lecturing or teaching, as the case may be. And then, my thoughts changed when I had my first experience, and ever since then, I have preferred online teaching to the traditional way of learning.

I remember vividly the supervisor assigned as our group project supervisor, who was supposed to lecture us on a particular topic that involved mathematics, traveled out of town. Being so kind, he didn't want to shift the task to his colleagues or let us miss out on how to go about getting the project work done, so he decided to schedule an online class for the group of 17 members.

That day, around 3 pm, we connected via the Zoom app, and attendance was taken for everyone present through the online platform and identification by our voices. I don't know how the lecturer managed it, whether he used a laptop or other bigger gadgets, but he appeared very perfect on the screen. He used a little board on the wall as he explained and wrote on it. It was no different from a normal classroom setting because he was writing on the board while explaining to us, and we could see and hear him clearly. That showed us that he had been into online lecturing for a while. After that, we regretted not having suggested online lectures during the tough times we had meeting up with lectures at the school.

That online class, which happened just once, was one of the best experiences we had in school. Pexels
Maybe it was because the lecturer handled it so perfectly that it made us feel it was like a normal classroom lecture. By the way, during the lecture time, I had to prepare intensively by switching my SIM to an MTN SIM, which had a very stable network, although the data subscription was a bit costly. I had to do that in order not to suffer connection issues with the Glo network that I was used to.

I attended the online class just once, yet I picked it as my preferred way of learning — but it never happened again.
However, there are shortcomings too, such as network issues when they arise.
