How it used to be then
The Easter celebration, as far as I can remember, has lost its taste compared to how I used to celebrate it in times past. Or let me say, I no longer give much attention to the festivity attached to it as it was in those days while living with my parents. Before I go on to tell you how I have been observing it now, let me walk you through how it used to be in those days.
I grew up in a family that was not much into religiosity. We were just casual churchgoers, and although we were well-recognised through our presence in church and involvement in church activities, we were not deeply into the spiritual aspect of it. So, whenever a festive period like this was approaching, we only anticipated the food, drinks, and merriment, and we never observed the sober reflection that is required for Christians to practice.
We would cook a big pot of rice with plenty of meat and enough drinks to go around, just as it happens on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, all of this would be done without conscientiously taking to heart the real reason for the celebration.
It is not like we were not taught in church about the reason for the season, we were, but the celebrations overshadowed everything, and we were very okay with it.
But now, things have changed, and many things are happening.
Right now, maybe because I am no longer living with my parents, I just find it hard to get along with the celebrations as we used to have them in those days. The day just happens like a normal day, with no noticeable difference.
Do I feel sober that my Saviour was killed and He resurrected? I do, but not much.
Just yesterday, as at the time of writing this, was the Resurrection Day, which is the main day of celebration. I just went to church, came back, ate my food, and slept off. Nothing special. I guess it is better this way too, than being among the people who go out to drink to stupor. Lol
