HIVE OPEN MIC #198 (ENG/ESP): Rebellion -"I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 198 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is “Rebelion” – which means “Rebellion” in English (I did double-check haha)!

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. Rebellion? Rebellion against what? Here are the three songs I recommended in the post above:

• “Sunday Bloody Sunday” by U2
• “Wake Up” by Rage Against the Machine
• “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry

Now those first two might make sense as excellent political protest songs, but why did I throw Katy Perry’s debut single in there? Well, in my mind anything that challenges societal norms is a form of Rebellion, and apparently back in 2008 when the song came out, the record label was really worried about whether the song would be allowed on enough radio stations, and how it would be received in more conservative parts of the USA like the Bible Belt.

So, in a funny way, the song fits as a form of Rebellion, so let me put on a wig and pretend to be a bi-curious young lady!

¿Rebelión? ¿Rebelión contra qué? Aquí están las tres canciones que recomendé en la publicación anterior:

• “Domingo Domingo Sangriento” de U2
• “Wake Up” de Rage Against the Machine
• “Besé a una chica” de Katy Perry

Ahora bien, esas dos primeras podrían tener sentido como excelentes canciones de protesta política, pero ¿por qué puse ahí el sencillo debut de Katy Perry? Bueno, en mi opinión, cualquier cosa que desafíe las normas sociales es una forma de rebelión, y aparentemente en 2008, cuando salió la canción, el sello discográfico estaba realmente preocupado por si la canción se permitiría en suficientes estaciones de radio y cómo sería. recibido en partes más conservadoras de los EE. UU. como el Cinturón Bíblico.

Entonces, de una manera divertida, la canción encaja como una forma de Rebelión, ¡así que déjenme ponerme una peluca y fingir ser una joven bicuriosa!
