Teaching boys

Teaching at an all-boys school is a privilege. It is a challenge. It is the singular most enjoyable thing that I have done in my life. It is a challenge. It is a calling. It is a challenge. It is extraordinary. It is a challenge. It is enjoyable. It is a challenge.

I LOVE IT!!

The challenges are not because of the boys… the challenges are for me as a teacher.
How to be strict, yet lenient.
How to be firm, yet approachable.
How to give boys freedom and yet control their energy.
How to engage them meaningfully.
How to compete with everything that occupies a boy’s mind on a daily basis.
How to share my passion and appreciate theirs.
How to share my knowledge and yet learn from them.

I LOVE IT!

Being part of a 120-year-old school in South Africa is part of my story.
The traditions and culture and values are so inherent and so part of the air that you breathe.
More than that, the fact that everyone is part of ONE big family.
From services to students, from old to young: Everyone is part of an unspoken “brotherhood” that fills you with pride.

I am privileged and inspired by this place daily.
I am inspired by the thought that some of my country’s greatest leaders and influential figures have walked these corridors.
I am humbled by the knowledge that future leaders and changemakers are currently walking the corridors and breathing the same air as me.

I LOVE IT!
