Walking on a Quiet Day

Just a few meters east of the historic center of Caracas, we come across an area known for its commercial spirit, unique character, and an atmosphere that, from its very beginnings, has been completely different from the rest of the city. The Candelaria parish was for many years a haven for immigrants—a place built with a European flair, where Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian customs blended with Venezuelan culture.

Caminando En Un Día Tranquilo

A pocos metros hacia el este del centro histórico de la ciudad de Caracas, nos encontramos con una zona que se caracteriza por su espíritu comercial, toque particular y un ambiente que desde sus inicios es totalmente diferente al del resto de la ciudad. La parroquia Candelaria es un espacio que durante muchos años fue cuna de inmigrantes, un lugar que se levantó con aire europeo, en donde las costumbres españolas, portuguesas o italianas se mezclaban con la venezolanidad.

Today, it is a commercial district par excellence, teeming with restaurants, which gives it a unique vibrancy within the city. This is one of those areas where you’ll always find people walking back and forth, brimming with life and a seemingly inexhaustible joy. At the same time, we encounter an architectural landscape dominated by contrasts, where the quirks of the past have blended with more modern elements, creating fascinating scenes.

Hoy en día es una zona comercial por excelencia, en donde abundan los locales destinados a la gastronomía y por lo cual cuenta con un dinamismo muy particular dentro de la ciudad. Esta es una de esas zonas en donde siempre encontraremos personas caminando de un lado a otro, mucha vida y una alegría que parece inagotable. Al mismo tiempo, nos encontramos con un rasgo arquitectónico dominado por los contrastes, en donde las peculiaridades del pasado se han conjugado con elementos más modernos, generando situaciones muy interesantes.

Today I decided to take a closer look at those buildings that have weathered so many trials, becoming witnesses to the city’s history and preserving within them an incredible cultural mix. This time, the photos I’m sharing with you were taken on a cloudy day—the kind of day I love so much—since walking through the city’s chilly streets is, for me, a very positive form of catharsis, as it’s all about enjoying a pleasant atmosphere in every way.

Hoy decidí mirar un poco a esos edificios que han resistido tantas situaciones, convirtiéndose en testigos de la memoria urbana y resguardando en su interior a una mezcla cultural que es increíble. En esta oportunidad, las fotografías que les regalo están marcadas por un día nublado, una jornada de esas que me gustan en demasía, ya que caminar por las calles frías de la ciudad para mí resulta ser un ejercicio de catarsis muy positivo, ya que se trata de disfrutar de un ambiente agradable desde todo punto de vista.
