Challenge #04929-M180: In Daydreams of Daisies
"I disassociate for one afternoon and now I'm MARRIED?!" -- Your Humble Author
Princess Felicitee Miette Trajydiegh Parleighview de Maunterazz had a habit of retreating into her rich fantasy world and letting her body do what Lithonesse trained it to do. It was much more pleasant in her fantasy world, where she did little more but weave daisy crowns for a long, long queue of creatures happy to wait for her next daisy crown.
Everyone who was schooled in Lithonesse had their methods for surviving its stresses. It didn't matter what it was because Lithonesse only cared that its students did what was proper at all times. Many had the Lithonesse Twitch. Some broke into fragments.
Princess Felicitee had her fantasy meadow of daisies. Which she startled out of when she felt someone's lips on hers.
Felicitee blinked into reality, facing a fellow she vaguely recognised as the precursor to some very nice meadow time. She knew better than to shrink back, scream, or react negatively.
"Let this union that the gods have decreed," said a Bishop with a holy tome, "never be parted by any but Death."
Those were...
That was...
"I'm married?" she whispered.
The Bishop nodded.
Felicitee faced the man who had kissed her. "To... you."
"Please say it with less of a sneer," whispered her brand new husband. "Take it how you will, but I am glad you're back to reality. I was worried I would be spending our wedded life with your automaton-self."
He... knew about that? Felicitee took his hand and stood by his side as she should. She kept a smile on her face despite how she felt. "None of my tutors in Lithonesse knew what I was doing," she whispered, never letting her smile falter.
They each smiled and shook the hands of all those who came to celebrate their union. It was, after all, expected.
Her husband did the same, "I doubt Lithonesse cared. For what it's worth, I care. I noticed you weren't yourself a couple of minutes after I entered your presence."
"Nobody else saw me like that," she said. "Or at least, they didn't mention it to me."
"Or if they did, you weren't at home when they delivered the news." Her husband bowed to her father. "I like your face much better when you're truly behind it."
"I can't remember hearing your name," said Felicitee.
"My friends call me Rob," said Rob.
"I prefer the name Miette," she said. "And I do look forward to getting to know you all over again." The people in her meadow could wait. They were good at waiting.
