Why People Are Becoming More Comfortable With Being Alone

Well I hope this topic and my take on it doesn’t sound so controversial, it is just a thought that has been on my mind lately as I look back at how we lived our lives years ago and the way we do now.

I’d try as much as possible to share personal experiences because they’ll be more relatable to everyone.
I don’t know if it’s the effect, aftermath of civilization, modernization or just a present day phenomenon but for a long time, over the years ,being alone was seen as something negative.

People that were alone or secluded in those days were those that have probably erred against the community or those that have terminal disease or contagious ones like leprosy and the likes but now it’s becoming the beauty and cliche or normal of the society but well we move…. Some things feels like they are above our comprehension, jurisdictions or control, so we just let be or adapt and in no time it starts to become the normal.

In previous years When a person stays alone to himself people always tend to associate it with loneliness, isolation, or social failure.
Social failure especially was how the person would be perceived, the society would assume that such person isn’t capable of building relationships quickly or socializing with others, just like the direct opposite of someone who is a social butterfly.

Now there could be other factors that may have caused the individual to stay alone, maybe self esteem which is a major topic of concern or problem on its own and those who are facing it need to be helped out before it leads to depression or furthermore suicide.
Over the years, more people have started embracing solitude and even preferring it in certain situations and the funny thing to me is that it defiles the olden days thinking and mentality, I’d take myself for an example, when I was still a teen, I loved being in seclusion to enjoy solitude and also gain productivity, then my Dad would always push me out to relate and interact with others or spend more time with the family but as I grew older approaching adulthood the same me was advised to spend more time with my self to think better, strategize better and enjoy peace in productivity.

As at then I didn’t realize it was a shift in perspective based on different era and not just my Dad’s decision or idea. And if you’re being real, one reason could be that modern life has become extremely noisy because honestly we are in a generation where distraction is being painted as innovation.
Between social media, work responsibilities, family obligations, and constant communication, people rarely get time to simply be with themselves that’s why nowadays solitude gives people a chance to think, recharge and process life without outside influence.

There is also a difference between being alone and being lonely. A person can sit alone in a room and feel completely peaceful, while another person can be surrounded by friends and still feel disconnected, I have been in this shoes before.

Many people are learning that quality of connection matters more than quantity. Solitude can become a space for creativity, reflection, and personal growth when approached intentionally.
