Bishop Bay | Canada
Traversing another 20 nautical miles (40 km) south from Bakers Inlet, you will find Bishop Bay, which is not a typical bay. Here, you can find a natural hot spring with two pools, where you can enjoy your evenings under the rainfall.
We spent around one and a half weeks there, thanks to the excellent dock access and the whales, which stayed in the bay for an entire week, putting on a show as they breached, dove, and displayed their fins. Truly fascinating creatures! All of that will be in the next post.
With the limited amount of sunlight, we’ve had to run the motor quite a lot, so we’re now looking for the next spot to fill up our fuel tank. We only carry around 400 litres of fuel, which would last a long time in the South Pacific, but the North shows no mercy.
Just before we left, a Coast Guard ship arrived, and all of their crew came to take a dip in the hot spring. They were all friendly, and after a brief chat, we untied the ropes from the dock and headed off.
In the summer, you wouldn’t be able to have the bay to yourself, as lots of kayaking groups come and go every year just to visit the hot spring. We were very lucky to have the bay to ourselves for 3–4 days.
Thank you for reading this post, I appreciate the upvotes on my last blog.
Until Next Time,
Paul
