Homemade Red-Pepper Hummus

I've never been a fan of hummus. Whenever I tried it, it was bland and boring. It just didn’t taste good to me especially for someone who was born in the Caribbean and was use to eating a lot of spices. Since I have been on a journey to eat better, I though I should gave it another shot and make my own. Now it's one of my favorite snacks. By infusing this Middle Eastern classic with a spicy kick, I created a hummus that satisfies my island palate.

Ingredients

  • Chick peas (32oz)
  • Red Bell Pepper (1/2)
  • Small White Onion (1/4)
  • Garlic (2 cloves)
  • Cumin (1/2 tsp)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Crushed Red Pepper (optional)
  • Haitian Seasoning

*Servings: 6

Instructions

  1. Rinse the chickpeas then add to a large bowl.

  2. Add Red Bell pepper, chop onion, garlic, cumin, salt, crushed red pepper, oil, to large bowl.

  3. Mix well and add to processor or high power blender. I used a NutriBullet.

  4. Transfer to a serving, sprinkle it with cilantro, drizzle with olive oil.

Tips

  • If you're using a NutriBullet like me, you'll achieve that irresistibly smooth texture in no time. If using a food processor, you may need to scrape down the sides for even blending.
  • Test out your own favorite seasonings.
