I bid farewell to this month of June with mixed feelings. On the one hand, there is the immense blessing of celebrating the 16th birthday of my first love, my son Santiago Andrés, whom God and life gave me after two long years of searching. On the other hand, there is the helplessness and pain of witnessing the tragedy ravaging Caracas and La Guaira, places in my beloved Venezuela.
My heart is broken for so many shattered families, so many mothers without children, and children who left us too soon—children who are now left without their parents. I did not experience the disaster firsthand, but from here, in Margarita, I see and grieve for every life lost as if it were my own.
It’s time for us to hug more, put things off less, and cherish today. Amid the trash, the debris, and the crisis, I’m left with the essence of the Venezuelan who doesn’t hesitate to lend a hand and save another person.
Life slips away in seconds. We spend our time trying to save for a “just in case” and forget that we deserve to live more and worry less, because maybe that “just in case” will never happen.
Today I embrace my son’s life, and from afar, here in Margarita, my heart aches for you, Venezuela. I’m proud to be Venezuelan, for the true essence of our people is coming to the surface—those who help even without resources, those who clear rubble with their bare hands, and those who take bread from their own mouths to give it to others.
Glory to God because we are alive today. Stay strong, my people. May God give us comfort and the strength we need to rise up once again. 🇻🇪❤️
