Summer gift

A friend recently went to a conference in Tunisia. He and his partner were in the village over the weekend and asked me to swing by. "I have a little something for you from the medina".

Of course, I was intrigued, touched and grateful.

Anyway, I followed instructions and dropped in. I'm sorry, he said, "It's still in the packaging from the Hammamet medina". A plastic bag and newspaper. My response: I don't mind, and when I got home, I realised that the wrapping makes it all the more authentic.

I love it, and have found myself planning my meals around the crockery rather than the food....

Raw sweetcorn and pepper salad dressed with a lime juice and olive oil

Yesterday was a corker: nearly 40°C, and still hot and humid into the night. I could have stomached nothing heavy for supper, so I simply had half of Saturday's raw sweetcorn and pepper salad that had been in the jar, topping it with grated cheddar and fresh coriander.

And, just because I could, I used my new bowl.

Until next time
