     Yeah, when the season kicked off, I figured the Washington Nationals would be bottom-feeders anchoring the cellar. But we totally missed the mark on that one. I mean, they could still hit a wall and go into a tailspin, but to our surprise, we are almost at the midway mark and these guys are right in the thick of the race. Riding on the backs of young ballplayers acquired as top prospects back then, when the team was in complete rebuild mode and racking up early draft picks, the D.C. crew has patiently built a roster that is finally paying off. Much like the Reds followed by my buddy Hive account@hosgug, the Nationals rebuilt from the farm system up to piece together a competitive roster. But unlike Cincinnati, Washington actually has a legit shot at playing October baseball. You just have to check out where they sit in the standings: third place behind the Phils and the Braves, and sitting just one game back of the third Wild Card spot in the National League. Can they actually punch their ticket to the postseason? That is tough to call because, even though they are hovering above .500, they haven't caught fire or shown that true day-in, day-out consistency yet.

     Los Reales de Kansas City ya no van al baile de Octubre. Al menos, así lo creemos.      The Kansas City Royals are out of the October conversation. At least, that is how we see it. Instead, the front office needs to look inward and figure out which pieces on the roster they can dangle as trade bait before the deadline. One thing is for sure: the Venezuelan infielder Maikel García and Bobby Witt Jr. look completely untouchable. The reason? They are the offensive engines of this ballclub.
