De Jonás para Nínive con amor [Es-En] From Jonah to Nineveh with love
Not Found o no encontrado.
Tampoco.
Recompensas por recompensar. Están por terminar.
La suscripción viene. Suave, suavecito. Paso a pasito.
Por la energía, por el alojamiento. Simplemente por estar.
Vuelve la aldea, aunque sea global. No más burgo ni cofrades artesanos.
Feudalismo corporativo digital.
Tal vez no, tal vez peor. Espero algo mucho mejor.
Profetas del desastre alzando la voz.
Profecías no cumplidas.
From Jonah to Nineveh with love
The world changes with every step, and the neighborhood with it.
Wanting to understand this, I turned to its authors.
Disciépolo and Borges, two touchstones.
But they speak to me of the same shadows, vanished in other latitudes.
Of the market and the corner grocer.
Of the afternoon gathering at the bar or the Saturday at the café.
I've seen two in two years. In a bar and a café.
Two tables surrounded by retirees with their drinks.
On a corner, a silent young man keeping his grandfather company.
The world changes and wants to erase the past.
To rewrite it as if it had flaws. The 404 error: Not Found.
The alarms sound like sirens under bombardment.
But only the deaf hear them, the old ones who are already running.
In the race for the carrot, distractions are not allowed.
It changes while some run and others sunbathe. It hasn't stopped changing with each turn of the sun.
And it will change again, for better and for worse.
Ancient visionaries were considered prophets.
Elevated to near-divinity or burned at the stake for being a nuisance.
Burned five hundred years ago.
Hidden and silenced in the digital noise.
They no longer disappear, unless they interfere with the foreseen course of events.
Another twist is about to occur, with a change in the landscape.
On sale and discounted yesterday, free today; tomorrow it will cost you a fortune.
Rewards for watching, for responding, for playing. No more.
Rewards for walking or answering surveys. Not anymore either.
Rewards for rewarding. They are about to end.
The subscription is coming. Gently, very gently. Step by step.
For energy, for hosting. Simply for being there.
The village returns, even if it's global. No more towns or artisan guilds. Digital corporate feudalism.
Perhaps not, perhaps worse. I hope for something much better.
Prophets of doom raising their voices.
Unfulfilled prophecies.
They saved those who heard them, one day.
Yesterday I wrote these lines in the afterglow of various news podcasts I listened to this week, and today, while searching for images to accompany them, I associated it all with the story of a thousand years ago, when the world was rebuilding itself and the center of power in Rome launched Europe into the Crusades.
The Pax Romana disappeared with the empire, and the world rebuilt itself in a period of obscurantism fueled by new religions that served as an excuse for the Crusades. Although the official ones lasted two centuries, we can trace them for another three until America appeared on the Western horizon. Crusades of children and shepherds, and against the Albigensians, and more. The seas became the new battlefields, and distant continents, the spoils to be conquered.
By the beginning of the 20th century, the vortices of the axes of power were shifting once again, and two world wars changed the landscape; the Cold War followed, along with revolutions, wars in the East, and color springs.
The axes of power are shifting again, and in a tug-of-war, the same flags are waved before the flock until they happily leap into the arena.
I write in Spanish and the English version is generated by Google Translate, a tool that also allows me to read writings in other languages that I do not know.
