Five Minute Freewrite: text me

Some words are better said than being texted. Mr Emmanuel was a workaholic and he spends most of his weekdays and even weekends working trying to get the work done. A lot of people had talked and advised him to always try to find a work life balance but would often procrastinate. He is married with 3 kids and those kids always miss him as he was not always available.

One day, there was an issue with one of kids and he was urgently needs to run some compatibility test but he was not reachable. His wife kept calling him non-stop and because the call was really disturbing him, he had to pick up.

The first thing he did when he had picked up was to shout at her telling her that he had warned to stop calling him during work hours, he kept repeating just text me and after he was done, he waited to hear her response or maybe even her apology but to his surprise he could hear her crying. He was very confused and he started asking what was wrong. His wife managed to compose herself and explained what the issues were but he was not reachable.

The feeling of almost losing a child caused him to have a factory reset, so he had to run to meet his wife and he kept apologizing as he was really sorry. Fortunately, he was able to arrive on time at the hospital and the doctor was able to save his child life. This incident had made Mr Emmanuel value his family and the importance of maintaining a work-life balance. He was really grateful for the second chance and he vowed to utilize it to the fullest.
