Water buttercups on Vologda river

For the third year in a row, I’ve been photographing water buttercups on the shallow Vologda River at night. It’s become something of a tradition. And every time, I get different shots that end up in the “best” category.

Diversity began to attract me in everything, including photography.

It’s not easy to shoot water buttercups if you want interesting shots.

For the first time, I learned that my tripod can actually be “turned inside out”—that is, you can mount the camera upside down thanks to the tripod’s legs being flipped.

Now there’s no need to roll up my pants and get into the water.

The low point, almost at the water’s surface, offers the most interesting angles.

This year, the water level is slightly higher than last year...and nothing yet compares to 2024.

I wish for that state of nature again, when all the rivers have become shallow.

When the water level is low, all the most interesting things become exposed!
