Don't Capture Me

Digital content creation is one of the trending jobs in our day. Even though there are people who do not do it for the incentive attached, a majority are into the field because of its lucrativeness.

In Nigeria, it is very common, both young and old are into content creation and I love how it stirs the creativity in people.

Many have gotten their break through in life through content creation, and many are still making it through it.

Content monetization is no doubt one of the best things that happened to mankind.

However, it is becoming concerning that while some people are making their cool money through content creation, they infringe on the rights of others.

Personally, I don't like the idea of taking pictures or making videos, not that there is anything wrong with it but I don't just find it interesting.

If you should go through my phone, I doubt you will see up to three of my pictures. It's not just my thing. A lot of people have complained about this to no avail.

Even on special events, I don't take pictures, I do everything to avoid the camera unless I am compelled, somehow.

If I avoid showing my face on things that concern me, is it something that is of no value to me that I would like to show my face on?

Seriously, It's very annoying to suddenly see one's face on contents they are not aware of.

Just imagine the camera caught you at the wrong moment, probably, when you are doing something crazy, it may be funny to the world but it will leave you devastated.

I don't care about any content originality, everyone has a right, if you want to create original contents, there is nothing wrong with informing the people around the environment, let them decide if they want their faces to be captured or not.

Taking them totally unaware is a right infringement and deserves to be punished. I am saying this because the same content creator might not take it lightly with anyone who uses them unaware to make money.

What hurts me the most is that they sometimes wait for the most vulnerable moments in people's endeavors and that's not fair.

In the end, people who they used to make money might become an object of ridicule, without even earning a dime.

Am I saying that originality should be evicted from content creation? Not at all, but the people should be informed before any capture.

Of course that consciousness might tamper with authenticity as some might over do or probably act cautious, but it's still far better than going against someone's right.

Should there be a law against videoing or snapping people for content unawares? My answer is yes, that's theft.

No one is saying people should be paid before pictures are taken, but taking it and using it without their consent is not proper.

No matter what it may cost your career as a blogger or content creator, I think doing what is right and respecting other's rights is honorable.
